Conferences are a great way to help you professionally develop, make important contacts, recharge and refocus your energy. The upcoming 4th Annual Silicon Valley Latino Leadership Summit (SVLLS) presented by Es Tiempo, LLC. and Hispanic-Net includes keynote speakers, presentations, and panel discussions to motivate, empower and inspire attendees to recruit, nurture and mentor future Latino generations. So mark your calendars for Saturday, May 11. The event will be held at the Stanford Faculty Club, 439 Lagunita Dr., Stanford, CA 94305.
The conference kicks-off with Keynote Speaker is Arturo Vargas, the Executive Director of National Association of Latino Elected Appointed Officials (NALEO) and the NALEO Educational Fund. Vargas’ message on public leadership and civic responsibility sets the tone for the conference this year. NALEO is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization that facilitates the full participation of Latinos in the American political process from citizenship to public service. The speaker and presenter line-up include:
- Mr. Carlos Orta, the CEO of Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR) showcasing the Insider Game II
- Film Producer, Cheyann Reagan, showcasing an excerpt from Off and Running, a new comedy web series that explores the breaking of stereotypes
- Award-Winning Actor-Writer-Director-Producer Rick Najera leads the audience in a lively discussion about education, civil rights and Latinos in Hollywood
- Closing keynote address will be presented by the Honorable Joaquin Castro. Castro was recently elected to the 20th Congressional District.
There are two summit sessions, Measuring Social Media for Leadership and Afternoon Plenary: Best Practices for Diversity and Inclusion for Competitive Growth in the United States. The panelists for the sessions are compiled of industry experts to who will engage in a lively interactive discussion. The event also has scheduled breaks where attendees will have the chance to network with over 250 leaders from business, government, education, and diverse industries.
SVLLS will be presenting awards to two outstanding Latinos for paving the Latino future. First, Henry Cisneros will be presented with the 2013 SVLLS Latino Pioneer Leadership award for exceptional civic leadership. Cisneros served as the first Hispanic-American mayor of a major American city and later became the 10th Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Second, Aida Alvarez will be presented with the 2013 SVLLS Lifetime Achievement award for her numerous outstanding achievements, such as being the first Latina and Puerto Rican to hold a United States Cabinet-level position.
