Teatro Visión’s MACARIO | October 10-20
Teatro Visión, in collaboration with playwright Evelina Fernández, composer Russell Rodríguez, and choreographer María De La Rosa, is proud to present its world premiere bilingual theatrical adaptation of the B. Traven novel and award-winning classic Mexican film, MACARIO. This new play will debut October 10-20, 2013, at the Mexican Heritage Plaza Theater at the School of Arts and Culture, 1700 Alum Rock Avenue in San José. Elizabeth Jiménez Montelongo Exhibition | October 15-December 9
Elizabeth Jiménez Montelongo will be exhibiting her highly textured, brightly colored oil paintings of indigenous Mexican dancers in a solo exhibition, Our New Sun, at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. She will exhibit 10 oil paintings in the lobby and several smaller paintings next door at Mountain View City Hall during the same dates. Montelongo’s paintings reflect the energy created by the dancers as a symbol of unity and mental strength. It was these qualities that allowed her ancestors to preserve their dance traditions and other aspects of their culture despite the violence and oppression inflicted on them by the Europeans. This body of work, The Euphoric Dance of the Unconquered Mind, celebrates the power of community and freedom of thought. Exhibition Dates: Oct.15-Dec.9, 2013. Ana Gabriel Concert| October 18

5th Annual San Jose International Short Film Festival | October 17 – 20
Celebrating our 5 Year Anniversary, the San Jose Internaitonal Short Film Festival kicks off with our “Premiere Event” on Thursday October 17th with our “Opening Night Red Carpet, Screening and After-Party.” We’ll begin the festival screenings on Friday, plus dual-tracks of screenings on Saturday and Sunday. We’ll also have filmmaker panels and terrific Q&A sessions, as many of our wonderful filmmakers will be in attendance for the festival.
