In our home, the family comes together to enjoy traditional meals during the holidays. Food is a way for us to create memories and pass down traditions. Some of our family’s favorite dishes for the holidays include tamales, birria, and posole.
Preparation of the meal is just as important as sharing the meal with loved ones. We help each other in the kitchen, sharing stories, laughing and passing down recipes that have been in the family for generations.
The local family-owned store, Cardenas Market is also built on a deep history and traditions. Jesus Cardenas, originally from Jalisco, Mexico, came to the United States in 1957 via the Bracero work program. He worked years in many of the fields throughout California and was determined to provide his family with a brighter future.
In 1981, Jesus and his wife, Luz, opened the first Cardenas Market in Ontario, CA. Since then Cardenas Market’s have opened doors to many more stores in California. It continues to be a proud family-run business to this day providing a wide variety of flavors, specialties and quality products from Latin America.
As you make preparations for El Día De Los Reyes (Three King’s Day) this January 6, including the traditional king’s crown, the Rosca de Reyes (or Kings’ Bread) and other dishes, you will find all your grocery needs at Cardenas Market.
