This past Tuesday, September 22, 2020, was National Voter Registration Day, an opportunity to raise awareness of voter registration, sign up for election reminders, request mail-in ballots, learn about early voting options, and so much more.
According to National Voter Registration Day, millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote every year because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register. Here a few things you can do to ensure you can vote this November.
- Ensure your voter registration information is correct
- Review your state’s mail-in deadlines
- Volunteer to work as a poll worker for election day
Our vote is our voice
One of our most important powers as citizens is exercising our right to vote. However, with this power comes a civic responsibility to consider our options and make informed decisions when electing representatives to office. With so much information available, it may seem daunting to spend hours reading through articles and reports to stay on top of accurate and recent news.
I just learned about Xfinity’s Election Central, a new bilingual resource that makes it easy to access details about registering to vote and the latest news for the election season. The hub contains critical election coverage from analysis, real-time election news, and top podcasts, including one of my favorite podcasts, Up First from NPR. The fact that all of these resources are in one location will transform the way I stay informed this election year. Rather than scrolling down my Twitter feeds to see the latest news, trying to catch the nightly news, or searching podcasts, all I have to do is use my Xfinity Voice Remote to get to Election Central.
