Pop Icons: Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein | Now through February 26

This is an impressive exhibition of iconic masterpieces by Pop Art legends Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. Large-scale works on paper from the 1960s-70s have been amassed from the collections of the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, Legion of Honor, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and private collectors. Femme Fatale – February 3 – March 17

Femme Fatale is a seductive and haunting exhibition exploring the complexities of femininity. Monochromatic sculptures, installations, paintings, and photographs subtly and thoughtfully reference domesticity, social constructs, and the feminine experience. Asian Masters Encounter the Western Tradition – Stanford Pan-Asian Music Festival | February 4

A master showcase: Yuan Sha, Kazue Sawai, and Ji Aeri join forces with the Stanford Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jindong Cai, to perform three concertos written for gu-zheng, koto, and gayageum. Also on the program is Prokofiev’s beloved Piano Concerto No. 3, featuring 2011 Stanford Concerto Competition winner Nathan Cheung as piano soloist. Teatro Vision Present The Labyrinth of Solitude | February 9 – 12

Teatro Vision proudly brings to San Jose, SOLITUDE, an original play by Evelina Fernandez and directed by Jose Luis Valenzuela. Inspired by Mexican novelist Octavio Paz’s landmark work, “The Labyrinth of Solitude.” Described by the Los Angeles Times as “swelling with art, heart and high style…it’s heartfelt emotional core, coupled with Valenzuela’s superb staging, make SOLITUDE a shared pleasure.” SOLITUDE weaves Octavio Paz’s nine essays about Mexican thought and identity into a story of secrets, laughter and explosive mambo. Barbara Martinez Jitner | February 22

Barbara Martinez Jitner is one of the firstLatinaexecutive producers of a primetime network television series, the Emmy nominated “American Family.” She served as Executive Producer for the Jennifer Lopez film “Bordertown” which was based on Martinez Jitner’s experiences posing as a factory worker on the U.S.-Mexico border in order to uncover a dark world of grueling poverty and sexual abuse in the town of Ciudad Juarez, where over 450 women were murdered.The film “Bordertown” will also be screened on the day prior to this lecture, on February 21st at 7pm free of charge at The World Theater. Rosa Louca – Silvia Poloto Exhibition | February 25 – May            

Brazilian-born Silvia Poloto is an accomplished artist working in a range of visual disciplines. She is known for her lively, abstract canvases and mixed-media sculptures.Recognized for her dynamic compositions and color sensibility, Poloto exploits a vibrant visual vocabulary of boldness and subtlety. Her deftly handled juxtapositions unfold in rich, textured hues and expressive gesture. The result is a body of work characterized by equal amounts of surprise, playfulness, and provocation. Her aesthetic choices engage the viewer on a visceral level.While the Bay Area is her current home, her work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and abroad, including United Arab Emirates, France, Spain, Jordania, Italy, Romania, Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, and China, among others.
