According to Global Cosmetic Industry (CGI) Magazine (January/February 2012), men’s skincare and haircare reached a global sales amount of $31 billion in 2011, with the amount expected to rise in 2012 and beyond. Now more than in the past, while most men do not perform as many steps as women, men have become focused on skincare and haircare. As basic as haircare has been with men, the trend of maintaining healthy hair and shape is fast becoming a priority. The following are hair style trends as listed in Sophisticates Hairstyles magazine (February 2012), as well as recommended products to maintain shape and hold.

Hairstyles:

  • Thick hair – extra length on the top with slightly shorter sides and a tailored back.
  • Naturally curly hair – hair cut tight to the head at the sides and back but fade upward, with a few inches of length at the top.
  • Fine hair – a uniform length with textured ends.

Hair Products:

Jack Black Body-Building Hair Gel – alcohol-free, with ingredients including Grapefruit and Panthenol (B5) for shine. Product adds volume and shine and offers medium hold.

Bumble and Bumble Sumotech – described as a molding compound that combines the properties of a wax, paste and cream. Contains beeswax and glycerin and also offers memory and pliability.

Bumble and Bumble Grooming Creme – can be used for both men and women. Offers a satin shine, light hold and lists ingredients such as avocado oil, sweet almond and jojoba.

Mitch for Men, the new line from Paul Mitchell featuring seven new styling products.
