Steinbeck Festival/ May 2-4

The National Steinbeck Center’s 34th Steinbeck Festival, “Onward: A Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of The Grapes of Wrath,” will explore John Steinbeck’s roots in Monterey County. The festival will feature several talks about one of America’s greatest novel, films, and theatres. Check out tour from Steinbeck’s home in Salinas or Ed Ricketts’ Lab on Cannery Row. Other tours include a wine tour of River Road, East of Eden Ranch tour and a Salinas Valley agricultural tour. The Steinbeck Festival is always a popular event. San Francisco Cinco de Mayo Festival/ May 3

The family friendly celebration is being planned on one of the Mission District’s trendy locations, Valencia Street, in between 21st and 24th streets. The celebration will showcase the very best of Mexican and Latin American cultures with diverse foods, music, dance, and artistry. Approximately 7,000 to 10,000 attendees will enjoy the rich cultural experience. This is an alcohol-free event. The celebration will be held from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Silicon Valley Gives/ May 6

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of community foundations, Silicon Valley Community Foundation will host the first-ever day of giving to benefit every non-profit organization in our region. SVCF will raise money for local nonprofits through a single online donation platform. This event will provide an opportunity for donors of all different capacities to be involved. This 24-hour online fundraising effort will give the community foundation the opportunity to raise millions of dollars for thousands of nonprofits- and make a difference to the people living in Santa Clara, San Mateo, and San Benito counties. Mexican singer, songwriter and performer will make a stop at the Bay Area for his Volver Tour 2014. As a Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame inductee, Gabriel is celebrating four decades of recording with this 40th anniversary tour. His concerts remain one of the hottest tickets in town. His concerts include a monumental two-and-a-half hour sets featuring an extravagant 30-member band backing him and an ambitious set list including songs from his whole career up to his most recent single. Salinas Valley Fair/ May 15-May 18

Castroville Artichoke Festival/ May 31- June 1

The 55th Castroville Artichoke Festival is a commemoration of all things artichoke. The event has artichoke cooking demos, tours of artichoke farms, artichoke-themed art and souvenirs, an artichoke parade, artichokes (and other vegetables) for sale at the farmer’s market, a race through the artichoke fields, a classic car show, and artichokes prepared in every way imaginable.
