JohnsonsArticleby Linda Castillo As a mother who works full-time, I am unable to be with my little ones during the day. And they are growing so quickly that I don’t want to miss out on anything. Consequently, the time that is spent with my little ones after work is even more precious to me. Giving my girls their nightly bathtime ritual is a way for us to connect and bond after a long day spent apart. With my 3-year old she loves playing in the tub with bubbles. She can stay in the tub for so long playing that I have to practically drag her out. We like to give her dolls a bath at the same time, make ice cream shakes with bubbles or her favorite to pretend she is a mermaid. I also have the alphabet and number toys that she can stick to the tile so we can do some playtime learning too. She knows the routine and looks forward to taking a bath every night. On the other hand, everything is new for my 9-month old. Bath time is a good opportunity to stimulate my baby’s senses with touching, smelling, seeing and hearing. She is fascinated with the water. She loves to splash the water, pop the bubbles and even nibble on her rubber duck. I use the time with her in the bathtub to sing and talk with her. It’s our special bonding time. Taking a warm and tranquil bath also sets the girls up for a good night’s rest. Once they are all clean and in their pajamas I tuck them into bed and turn down the lights. We say our prayers and read a short book together. There will be a time when my daughters will not need me to put their pajamas on, brush their teeth or give them a bath. Until then I am enjoying every moment of our nightly bath time rituals. I hope that when my girls are older they will remember their childhood nighttime routine as fondly as I know I will.
