When I was young I never quite got the hang of putting makeup on. I would either be wearing a foundation that was a few shades off from my natural skin color or wear a crazy eye shadow color that ended up changing colors by the end of the day. And for the life of me till this day, I still can’t perfect putting on eyeliner, and believe me I would love to be able to sport a cat eye but it just doesn’t happen. Maybe it was my frustrations putting on make-up that I realized that makeup can’t make you beautiful.
Over the years I have become more “comfortable in my own skin.” But what exactly does that mean? I feel that I finally got that meaning of that statement in my 30s. For me, it means to love you inner and outer self and to accept all the little imperfections that make you who you are. This statement is even more important as I am seeing and embracing the changes in my skin. There are now a few more fine lines, dark spots and a little less glow than I had before.
Loving your skin includes caring for it to. I am doing my best to take care of my skin. While I can’t stop getting older, I sure can do my best to make sure I age gracefully. I always use a moisturizer with at least an SPF 30. I try to wash my face twice a day. I realize that skincare also begins with the things that we put in our body. So I try to keep hydrated with at least 8 glasses water a day and ensure that I eat a good serving of fruits and vegetables daily.
I believe that radiance comes from how I feel inside not by any wearing make-up. I know that the someday my baby girl will want to wear mascara, eyeliner, bright eye shadow and lipstick, and I hope that I can convey to my daughter that she doesn’t need make-up to feel or look beautiful. I want her to know she is beautiful inside and out, just as she is.
And while I embrace my skin’s imperfections, I am always looking for products that will repair any skin damage. That’s why I am excited to try Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair, a lightweight silky moisturizer that fades the looks of dark spots and discoloration.
