Viajando Destination Mexico – Dining Event 9/3

Viajando means to travel or go on a journey. This September, join us for our continuing monthly dining event where we explore cuisines from Latin America and beyond. Our destination this month is Mexico, which is shaping up to be an exciting evening with delicious cuisine, live mariachi and folkloric dancers. Mommy And Me Spanish Immersion Class 9/3-10/23

Let’s play in Spanish! Give your children the gift of Spanish by stopping by and checking out our free demo “Mommy and Me Class” on either Wednesdays or Thursdays. Please make sure to first RSVP either by email or by calling our office. Children Class (2-7) is on Wednesdays from 9:30am to 10:20am (September 3 to October 22). Tech Plus Tastings 9/4

Water-Efficient Gardening 101 9/6

“Water Efficient Gardening 101” will cover the basics of plants, planting, care and ongoing maintenance for a garden landscape featuring water-wise or drought-tolerant plants. Both large-scale and small-scale projects will be addressed, including patio and container gardening. There will be a raffle at the event for several drought-tolerant plants, and free refreshments will be provided, courtesy of the Friends of the Menlo Park Library. Unmasked – Exhibition 8/27-11/15

MACLA opens its 2014-15 season with “Unmasked,” an exhibition about real and re-imagined superheroes. Latino artists Dulce Pinzon, Hector Hernandez, Carlos Donjuan and Rio Yanez explore cultural and social issues of identity and otherness through the visual language of comic books, science fiction and superheroes; they also incorporate the heroic story of and expand on the mythology of the superhero. Pop Art From The Anderson Collection At Sfmoma – Exhibition 8/13-10/26

For the past 50 years, Bay Area art collectors Harry and Mary Margaret Anderson have passionately assembled one of the most outstanding private collections of 20th-century art in the world. They have also demonstrated extraordinary generosity; in 1992, they donated a group of 30 works by Claes Oldenburg, Andy Warhol, and other Pop Art pioneers to SFMOMA, and they gave 121 works to Stanford, all of which go on display this fall in The Anderson Collection, a new building adjacent to the Cantor.To celebrate its new neighbor, the Cantor presents an exhibition of 10 spectacular Pop Art works originally part of the Andersons’ donation to SFMOMA. Works include: a silkscreen self-portrait by Andy Warhol; a “mirror” series sculpture and two other major works by Roy Lichtenstein; “Funeral Heart” by Claes Oldenburg; Robert Indiana’s iconic “Love” painting; and important paintings by Jim Dine, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and James Rosenquist.
