You have probably been seeing the headlines about Apple’s new diverse emojis. You know the small digital images that you include in a text or Facebook post to express a particular emotion. Now the next time you use an emoji to express yourself they will look a little more like you with Apple’s new diverse people emojis.
The Huffington Post-Tech recently reported that a new beta release of iOS 8.3, currently available only to software developers, includes the option to change an emoji’s skin color. The diverse emojis are part of a collection of 300 new emojis set to be released later this year.
According to CNNMoney, the development of these diverse emojis was in response to the “Diversify My Emoji” petition over the limited options for people of color run on DoSomething.org. The loud public outcry was heard and afterwards Apple pledged to increase the diversity in its emoji keyboard.
While Apple has not yet reported an officially release date, there is much anticipation from the users to get their hands on these diverse emojis. I am hoping the next update will include some emojis for the girls with curls!
