Warmer weather is on its way and the time to show off your summer body is just weeks away. Whether you’re looking to get fit without signing up for a costly gym membership or without a grueling, limited diet, the National Honey Board and Barbara Trujillo Gomez, certified fitness and yoga instructor and author of the exceedingly popular book “… Barbara por atras”: A Latin Woman’s Guide to Fitness, encourage Latinas across the nation to become more active with the help of a little sweet, golden fuel – honey! This summer, tune in to www.mielpura.org to check out an eight-week-long series of videos that demonstrate quick and easy exercises and teach you about the unique properties of honey as a natural energy booster.
Many people use honey as a condiment for breakfast and tea. However, honey has a distinctive carbohydrate composition of natural sugars and trace amounts of antioxidants, enzymes, minerals, vitamins and amino acids that make it the perfect energizer. No matter what activities you partake in, carbohydrates are what fuel muscle contractions to help keep you going.
“Honey is a natural source of carbs and essential nutrients,” says Trujillo Gomez. “Try adding a couple spoonfuls to your water for a naturally energizing drink and enjoy throughout the day or before, during and after a workout.”
Barbara Trujillo Gomez is one of the country’s best-loved fitness and wellness experts. Over the years, she has stood firm in one belief – that being healthy is the ultimate standard of beauty. After many years in her corporate career, Trujillo Gomez left that world to dedicate her life to her passion of promoting healthy lifestyles and fitness activities and thus founded her own fitness brand called B&B Fit. Through this initiative with the National Honey Board, Trujillo Gomez hopes to continue inspiring women to become more active, as well as to educate them about the benefits of honey as a natural source of energy. Trujillo Gomez shares one of her favorite energizing honey-based recipes that can easily be prepared at home for an added boost of energy:
