Racing Extinction

The much anticipated feature documentary Racing Extinction premiered December 2 in the U.S. on the Discovery Channel. Oscar®-winner Louie Psihoyos (The Cove) assembled a team of artists and activists intent on showing the world never-before-seen images that expose issues of endangered species and mass extinction. This is ongoing campaign that unites people to work collectively toward reduction of carbon emissions and the prevention of species extinction.

The Race is On

Extinction is an enormous problem but don’t be overwhelmed. Together, we can fight it on all fronts and curb extinction and species loss. We can’t do everything at once but each action you take matters. #StartWith1Thing

Take the Racing Extinction Challenge:

DIET

Are you ready to say #byebyebeef? This challenge is really simple: we are asking you to stay away from meat of any kind. This is actually the fastest way we can curb carbon emissions. We aren’t asking you to give up meat altogether (or at least not yet!) Just for 1 day. It’s that easy.

ENERGY

75% of the electricity that powers home electronics is consumed while these devices are turned off. Think about your home electronics—stereos, speakers, laptops, desktops, televisions and DVD players. This challenge is all about making your home more sustainable.

OCEAN

This challenge is all about the story of your seafood. By informing yourself and advocating for ocean animals, we can help curb the drastic decline in fisheries. This challenge: Make better choices about what you eat and what you purchase.

TRANSPORTATION

Last year, American drivers traveled the equivalent of 6.2 million round trips to the moon. The moon! Transportation accounts for 27% of greenhouse gas emissions in the US. It’s time to curb these habits. This challenge will urge you to not use your car for a day.
