At the recent “Latina Business Leaders: Diverse Pathways to Success” event, a panel of local Latina leaders gathered at the Los Altos History Museum to honor the legacy of Juana Briones. Juana was a dynamic 19th century businesswoman, traditional healer and advocate. She owned many parcels of land in what is now Los Altos Hills, Palo Alto, San Jose, and San Francisco.

Juana Briones Summer Workshop July 9-20, 2018
This is a wonderful opportunity for high school students to learn about the life and times of Juana Briones–entrepreneur, healer, and humanitarian of Afro-mestiza heritage who lived in the Bay Area in the 1800s. The Juana Briones Summer Workshop for high school students will be held at Los Altos History Museum from July 9 to July 20, 2018. Participants will engage in historical research and apply what they learn to create installation pieces for the bilingual exhibition running October 18, 2018 through April 20, 2019. Interested students must apply for program by May 1, 2018.
