Set against the beautiful backdrop of the ocean view, 10-year old Gabriela Sepulveda gave an amazing performance singing traditional Mexican melodies at the recent Dia del Nino event at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. “Otra, otra,” chanted the pleased crowd after each song.
At such a young age this talented San Jose, California native is no stranger to performing on stage. She has appeared on national television programs such as “Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento” and “Sabado Gigante” with Don Francisco.
“I love to sing. I feel something in my heart and it is natural,” Gabriela says.
Her love for music began at the early age. She was only two years old when she started singing.
“My father is a musician and my mother is a great singer,” Gabriela says. “I like to join my mom singing when she is in the kitchen.”
Her parents have supported Gabriela’s passion and natural talent for singing in every way. They enrolled her in the Mexican Heritage Corporation’s music education program for one year, where she was able to learn new singing techniques and gain experience to perform in public. At only eight years old, Gabriela started singing in public. As a participant in the music education program, Gabriela had the opportunity to perform at the Mariachi and Mexican Heritage Festival, singing in front of thousands of appreciative fans.
Gabriela is just one of the hundreds of kids who participate in Mexican Heritage corporation’s music education programs each year. In addition to gaining an appreciation for rich cultural heritage represented in Mariachi music, kids in the program learn so much more, including self-confidence, teamwork, and history.
Gabriela’s appearance on “Sabado Gigante” changed her life in so many ways. “It was one of my dreams come true. I was very excited to be part of Sabado Gigante because it is all over Latin America,” Gabriela says.
After her performance on “Sabado Gigante”, she said that more people recognize her and she has fans. Her fan following was clearly evident at the Dia del Nino event with several children and families flocking to take photos with her after the performance.
Even at such a young age, Gabriela is a role model to so many. She says that being a young role model makes her feel happy. “I enjoy singing and I like inspiring others,” Gabriela says.
When asked about what the future holds for her. Gabriela says she would like to be “singing in a big giant stadium with beautiful clothes and people wanting my autograph.”
Be sure to stay tuned to the next season of “Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento” and vote for Gabriela as she continues in the semi-finals. Modern Latina wishes her lots of luck in the competition and the pursuit of following her dream. We are sure to see more from this rising star in the future.
