Whether you are expecting your first baby or your second, preparing the nursery is one of the most important parts of getting ready for your baby’s arrival. I remember with my first baby, I wanted to make everything perfect in the nursery and once it was complete I finally felt ready to bring our baby home. The nursery is an oasis for your baby and you to bond so it is important to create a space that is relaxing and inspiring. The space should work not only for your baby but also for you!
Starting with an empty room can be very overwhelming. So deciding on a theme for the room is a great place to start when decorating the nursery. Think of different sources of inspiration from nature, colors, favorite cartoon characters, movies and more. Disney Baby has so many adorable bedding collections to choose from that you will not be at a loss for inspiration. Their nursery collection features playful designs including Let’s Go Mickey, Minnie Happy Day, Lion King Jungle, Nemo, Ariel and Monsters Inc. to name a few. The bedding collections are available at your local Walmart within the baby section of the store.
All these cute Disney Baby bedding designs are a springboard for decorating inspiration. I fell in love with the Minnie Happy Day collection which features an appliqued Minnie Mouse, perched on a polka dot hillside with butterflies and flowers and a chevron print border. So cute!
Here are some tips to help you get started to decorate your baby’s nursery.
- Start with an inspiration piece. Crib bedding is a great starting point for your nursery design. The bedding will be a good anchor for the color scheme and room accessories.
- Keep it simple. You already have a lot on your mind to get ready for your new baby’s arrival so decorating the nursery should be a fun not stressful activity. Make a list of the basic items that you will need to keep your shopping organized. Focus on a few key pieces to pull the complete look together such as bedding, curtains, lamp and rug.
- Combine form and function. Make the space work for your needs. Think about everything that you will be doing in the nursery from rocking your baby to sleep, changing diapers, playtime and more. I recommend looking at the room in different zones such as the reading area, diaper changing area, and play area, etc. Additionally, look for ways to keep everything at hands reach and to keep the room tidy. I am a huge fan of baskets to hold everything from diapers, baby blankets, toys, and more!
- Choose a design that will grow with your little one. Consider keeping the wall a neutral color or a color that will work as your baby grows. Decals for the walls and curtains are a great ways to add to the design and both are easily changeable. Also, when purchasing pieces for the nursery think about how they will work later. For example, opt for a diaper changer table that will convert into a dresser to store your future toddler’s clothing.
Most of all have fun decorating and think of all the beautiful memories you will soon be making once your baby arrives!
