The Chingona Award recipient is a mujer who is fearless, determined, powerful, and unstoppable. She is the embodiment of confidence and is always uplifting her family and community. We celebrate the chingonas who are inspiring and helping our community keep pushing forward and what we are capable of realizing.

We are so honored to announce Modern Latina’s 2021 Chingona Award recipient, Darcie Green.

Darcie Green is a lifelong resident of San Jose and brings with her 20 years of community activism and public policy experience. She is the Executive Director of Latinas Contra Cancer which exists to create just and equitable access to health and healthcare for the Latino community around issues of cancer. Darcie is a nationally certified Patient Advocate. While working for nonprofit health insurance and hospital system, Darcie led local efforts on health policy, often bringing together unlikely allies and resources in order to support improved health outcomes for uninsured or underinsured populations.

Prior to entering the nonprofit and healthcare sectors, Darcie worked as a field representative in the CA State Legislature where she helped to address many public policy issues affecting the residents of San Jose, with a particular emphasis on access to health and quality public education. Darcie served four years in appointed in public office and six years in elected public office serving on her local school board, County Board of Education, and County Commission on the Status of Women. She is a Rotarian in the San Jose Downtown Rotary and an American Leadership Forum Senior Fellow, Class XXVIII. Darcie currently serves as Chair of the Santa Clara County Race and Health Disparities Board. Darcie resides in East San Jose with her amazing little boy, Hathorne.

Join us for this uplifting conversation with this year’s Chingona Award recipient. We will have a chance to talk with Darcie about her 20 years of community activism, public policy experience, and her leadership journey. Darcie will also share more about her work at Latinas Contra Cancer, early breast cancer prevention, and other ways to get involved.
