I love to watch my sweet little daughter sleep. She looks like an angel. But lately getting her to go to bed makes me so exhausted.

It has become a nightly routine where my little one does everything in the book to avoid going to bed. “Mommy I am thirsty,” “Mommy, there is a monster in my room,” “Mommy, I need a band aid,” “Mommy, my tummy hurts,” and the list can go on and on. I give it to my little one she is creative when it comes to making excuses to sleep with her mommy.

#HuggiesLatinoAnd I hate to admit it but there are times I just cave in and let her sleep with me. Especially when I am just too exhausted myself to go back and forth with her or she asks in her sweet little voice, “Sleep with mommy please.”

Here are some tips that have worked to get my little one back into a better bedtime routine, at least most of the time:

  • Establish a routine. I give my little one a bath every night followed by brushing her teeth and reading her a bedtime story. I also like to turn off any television and some of the lights that will over stimulate her before going to bed.
  • Remind her that she sleeps in her bed while mommy and daddy sleep in their room. Yes, there are times that reasoning with my toddler actually works.
  • Try something familiar to help her get to sleep. I leave a night light on, have background sound going, and give her favorite turtle stuffy to snuggle with.
