I embraced my inner geek at the #LatinaGeeks’ Day Celebration: Silicon Valley on July 10th, 2025. This day marked the official recognition of #LatinaGeeks by the City of San Jose, an annual tribute to the significant contributions Latinas make in the realms of technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The event provided a valuable opportunity to hear from the leadership team and learn about what the Silicon Valley #LatinaGeeks chapter is all about.
Launched in 2012 by Lala Castro and Tanya Salcido, #LatinaGeeks acknowledges the need for resources tailored to Latinas interested in technology within a digital landscape. Through hands-on workshops, strategic partnerships, and community events, their mission revolves around educating and empowering Latinas by sharing technical knowledge, business skills, and entrepreneurship resources.
The volunteer-led Silicon Valley Chapter, inaugurated in October 2024, now stands alongside active chapters in Los Angeles and San Diego, collectively fostering education and inspiration for Latinas within the tech industry. Offering in-person events and virtual workshops, their programs aim to enhance tech careers and support aspiring entrepreneurs. #LatinaGeeks’ signature events include the Women in Tech Festival, Leaders in Tech program, and Inspirada Awards Gala.
